Right on the corner of San Francisco street that faces El Jardin, La Coronela is one of San Miguel's traditional Mexican cantinas. La Coronela is on the upscale side in terms of cantinas, favored by Mexican tourists visiting San Miguel. La Coronela boasts a great location, as it sits on a corner that faces el Jardin, where patrons can see and be seen. La Coronela can also be easily identified from the outside by the purple lights that adorn the inside.
La Coronela is characterized for trying to keep the cantina classy (at least classier than other San Miguel cantinas). Waiters are nicely dressed in white shirts with black vests and matching bow ties, and the decor features pictures of famous movie stars from the golden age of Mexican cinema. Music features classic Mariachi songs and a Jukebox where patrons are encouraged to choose their favorite song and sing along to it with their friends. La Coronela is a great cantina where friends can have fun and expect great service, but it is recommendable to go during the afternoon or early evening, as La Coronela seems to be preferred by patrons as a place for casual drinks during the afternoon.
